Accomplishments

Led Mayachitra’s NIH-funded (through an STTR) commercialization of technology transferred from UC Santa Barbara’s Biology & Electrical & Computer Engineering Department.

Envisioned and led the development of DV Studio’s platform products for CD-Recording (CDR) and MPEG encoding that helped drive CD-R technology to the general public.

Published “CD-Recordable Bible,” a world-recognized and translated reference book.

Received the 1996 annual  award (Private Sector Technology – CD-R) of the Special Interest Group for CD-ROM Applications and Technology (SIGCAT), the largest CD-ROM user group in the world.

Experience

ASSAYSOFT, INC., Fountain Valley, CA
Principal Scientist
2008 – Present

Developed cellAnalyst image mining software for high throughput microscopy. This software was developed for Windows platform (C#/.NET). The same application is also developed for WEB using ASP.NET/AJAX. www.assaysoft.com

MAYACHITRA, INC., Santa Barbara, CA
Principal Scientist
2005 – 2007

Led Maychitra’s technology research and development activities, providing the vision, direction, and expertise necessary to drive innovation.

Developed dbVision, Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) Software for the storage and retrieval of biomedical images.

  • Developed in C#/.NET and MATLAB on a Windows XP platform.
  • Indexing of images by metadata, annotation, and content (Homogeneous Texture and Edge Histogram).
DV STUDIO, INC., Santa Ana, CA
Product Manager
1991 – 2004

Envisioned and provided the technical oversight necessary to develop a number of successful products that changed the technological landscape of CD-Recording (CDR) and MPEG encoding.

Led the development of real-time MPEG-2/MPEG-1 encoder boards for use in DVD/VideoCD creation, including:

  • Apollo Expert – Encoder card widely used by the OEM DVD and SuperVCD market.

Spearheaded the development of user-friendly and highly-functional CD/DVD burning software launched in 1992 for use with Philips, Yamaha, and Sony CD burners; revolutionizing the mainstream accessibility of CDR technology.

  • CD Gen – Pre-mastering product.
DISC MANUFACTURING, INC. (CINRAM), Anaheim, CA
Member of Technical Staff
1989 – 1991

Developed multiple software applications designed to control the CD mastering machine (6502 Microprocessor Assembly Language) and transfer data from 8mm Exabyte tape to a Laser Beam Recorder (C/DOS).

ORACLE CORPORATION, El Seguendo, CA
Member of Technical Staff
1988 – 1989

Consulted with key Oracle clients, providing technical expertise necessary to resolve relational database design issues.

Developed Federal (US Navy and Social Security) database applications using Oracle DBMS.

Built C and Oracle applications for use on a VAX/VMS system.

Additional technical experience developing database management software (Oracle-VAX/VMS), instruction mapping (prelude to RISC processor concept).

  • Xerox Corporation, El Seguendo, CA (1986-1987)
  • AT&T Bell Labs, Naperville, IL  (1980-1985)
